Description

Oil and gas companies collect an immense amount of data in the course of their daily operations. Historically, most well reports, well production rates, accounting records and assorted general documentation have been in analog form stored in a metaphorical vault on the company’s shared drive. Accessing even a single report for a given well required a user to search through piles of folders buried on a network drive wasting valuable employee time and driving systemic inefficiencies. The problem is compounded when collecting multiple well reports to make comparisons and build historical knowledge. Recognizing the importance of extracting data and integrating data from multiple sources, and providing for its real-time access, Triple Crown Resources sought to develop its business model around an integrated data platform, allowing for employees to create and exchange value between the database and the end user. The integrated platform allows team members to improve interpretations, analysis, and eliminates tedious, repetitive work. A valuable aspect of the platform is the ability of administrative team members to work alongside geoscientists and engineers, creating a seamless workflow that encourages transparency, accountability, and efficiency within all company functions. The database calculations and interpretations save critical employee time and allow for a small company, with a limited budget and human resources, to perform with the capacity of their larger industry peers. This paper serves to provide a model that works well for small to medium size businesses that can be adapted to serve larger companies as well.
